Options for Composite Material
Aluminum composite signs are waterproof and resistant to rust, mold, warping, corrosion, and delamination. They have been tested to withstand wind gusts up to 120 mph and freezing temperatures. When printed with UV-resistant inks, the colors in the graphics and sign base remain fade-resistant. The two main brands of aluminum composite sheeting are:
- Alumalite: Features a corrugated polyethylene core between two sheets of aluminum, factory finished with polyester paint. Alumalite weighs 96% less than non-composite aluminum and is available in thicknesses of 6mm, 10mm, 15mm, and 25mm.
- Dibond: Consists of two 0.012” aluminum sheets bound to a polyethylene core through a continuous extrusion process, with total thicknesses ranging from 2mm to 6mm. Dibond weighs half as much as pure aluminum sheets.
Aluminum Composite Printing Resources
Both Alumalite and Dibond can be routed into custom shapes or sizes and bent around corners. A CNC router is used to drill holes for mounting to a wall or pole. These materials come in a range of colors, with natural metal often used for printing graphics due to its luminance. Graphics can be applied using:

The aluminum facings can be finished with a brushed or polished appearance and can have reflective lamination applied for nighttime visibility.
